October 29th, 2009:

Last Tuesday, I put a new chimney through the roof. Tonight, I hung a brand new 200,000 BTU gas unit heater up in our track area. This is the first of two units that will be keeping our racers warm on our indoor track and pit area through the winter months. I ordered two more new gas unit heaters for the building that will be in tomorrow. Priority one will be to get these new furnaces installed and running. The owner tells me that they will start remodeling our area next week beginning with a new fire wall on our west side.

Grayson and I went there to drop of some things and do a little work. We terminated the new gas line for our heating system and started to run the line to the 1st furnace in our track area. We also brought a couple of tables and some folding chairs to use for our first on site meeting. We hope some of you guys will stop by. This will be on Tuesday evening 11/03 at about 8:00PM. See this link for more info: http://www.krcproducts.com/forum/index.php?topic=800.0

The news of our new R/C site is already getting around. Even the building owners have had people approach them about it. If we all work on this, it should turn out great! KRC has limited resources that will be only enough to set the site up to be ready to have races. We sure could use any help from other sources that we can get. Things like used tables and chairs for the pits and other things would be useful. Consider helping out if you can.

A Small update:

We had our first on-site meeting last night. This was mainly just to show local racers the site and it went well. Thanks for stopping by guys.

During the meeting, we could see the start of the building owner's contractors installing the overhead and walk in doors for the new section east of our shop area. Today, I stopped by to check things out and those new doors are now installed. Next that fire wall that will divide our shop from that stall will go up. After that wall is up and both east and west walls are sheet rocked and finished, we can move in and start setting the place up. It will not be too much longer...

The owners are clearing the place out. I set up to install the last two chimneys for the new gas unit heaters. Tomorrow, I will cut the holes through the roof and place the vents. Hopefully we can get the heaters hung in place also. I am guessing the new wall studs will go up next week. The owner want to get all of their part done before we start moving anything in.

My plan is to just get those remaining three heaters completed and running. After that, I will need to load up the race system for Carpet Season Startup at the East Grand Forks Legion. We will start weekly races on Tuesday evening 11/24 and run there until we can get the new site ready.

The chimney vents are now up. Whew, I am glad I got that done. A fat boy like me does not do well on a pitched metal roof when and/or covered with snow. Now aside from completing gas supply terminations, the rest of the work I have left to do is inside.

The owners are going to work in there. There are electricians redoing the wiring and most of the storage items are moved out.

Stopped by there today. Took the day off. Will do some work there tomorrow. The owners want me to remove peg board I want to salvage. On Friday I have to get some wisdom teeth pulled, so won't be there. Saturday I will if I can.

Other than getting those peg board panels off of the wall in my furure office wall on Thursday, I did not get anything done this weekend. Getting my wisdom teeth pulled left me feeling kind of nasty. I will get back into it this week in the evenings.

Some progress today. Teminated the gas lines where the meters will be for the last two furnaces. Hung gas supply lines until ran out of time.

I am almost finished installing the furnaces in the site. The owner's guys have most of the storage items removed and I am told they are going to start putting up the east fire wall next.

I ordered the CRC Fasttrack Carpet to cover a 60' x 50' area for our track. I also made an account with CRC for their products. They have great Pan Cars and selection of foam tires.

After the walls are finished being put up, insulated and sheeted, we can get in there and start setting up. There will be a lot of things like fixing up the ceiling, walls and cleaning the floor. Cleaning the floor will be a tough one. It is concrete that had square tile stripped off. It will need to be scrubbed clean so that it can be smoothed out with floor leveling cement before the carpet can be laid down and secured.

Basically, a whole lot will need to be done before we can open. That is why I am thinking it will be January when we can move our races in there.

3:00PM Sunday:

Heading to the new site to do a little work. I also must get ready for Monday to work for D & D. My HVAC Tech job is what keeps us going and takes priority over the R/C business.

Remember Carpet Racing starts at the EFG Legion on Tuesday evening 11/24. I hope we will see you guys there.

8:30 PM Sunday:

Just got home from Grand Forks. Did some needed shopping. Dropped off some more items at the EGF Legion that we need for our races there.

Went to the new site. I did not get much done; mainly needed to get my tools so I can put them back into my service van before work on Monday. The owner's guys made progress on Saturday though. The east fire wall 2' x 4' framework is up. I guess they will work on sheeting it up this week. We should be able to start moving in in two or three weeks, I am guessing.

I talked to my friend Gene who owns Star-Brite Cleaning Service. Gene has helped me out many times through the years. I asked him if he had an electric pad-type floor scrubber that we can borrow to help get the floor ready for carpet. He told me that he does have a couple but has not used them for a couple of years. He will make sure one of them works and borrow to us. There is almost 6000 square feet of floor in there. Most of that is concrete. It is dirty and greasy from the years of being used as basically storage. I was not looking forward to trying to clean that without a power unit...

Great donnie. It will not be too much longer. For now, I have been pretty busy. Lots of things to do. I got a dozen transponders to put new cells in on top of that. Are you coming to our races tomorrow at the Legion?
